Where is my data?
Most programmes turn on online storage in Set up. Observers' phones then send finished observations, encrypted, to your organisation's own storage, and every connected computer in the programme team sees the same observations. Only your organisation holds the key.
Without online storage, observations stay in the browser you used, on that device. Use Back up to save a file and Load a backup to bring it onto another device.
How do phones and computers work together?
Observers record on their phones. The programme lead turns on online storage on a computer (in Set up) and shows each observer a QR code to scan. Finished observations are sent from the phone automatically when there's signal. Coding, checking and results happen on the computers, which stay in sync.
iPhone: open the link in Safari, tap Share, then "Add to Home Screen". Open NOMIC Ramp from the home screen, go to Set up, choose "Connect this one" and paste the link.
How do several observers combine their work without online storage?
Each observer sets their initials in Set up, so their observations are numbered with them (e.g. LR-001). Each saves a backup file and gives it to the programme lead, who loads them all. Where the same observation is in two files, the more recently changed copy is kept.
How do I dictate notes?
Tap in the note box, then tap the microphone on your phone's keyboard. This uses your phone's own dictation. Test it in real ramp noise before the round, and step away from the crew to speak.
What are the Managed, Mismanaged and Unmanaged buttons?
Under the note box. Tap one as it happens and keep talking: dictation doesn't stop. Managed or Mismanaged when you see the team act; Unmanaged when something is left as it is. The tap is timed to the second and goes with the note in the box, or the last note if the box is empty. It helps the coder find the moment later. Tap a chip twice to remove a mis-tap.
What do I answer when the aircraft has gone?
Arrival, departure on time or late (and minutes late), whether there was any delay at the aircraft, whether it was loaded correctly in your judgement (with an optional comment), and any damage, injury or near miss you saw. Use Not known if you can't tell. Never write flight numbers or registrations in the comment: they are removed before anything is shared.
Can I use paper instead?
Yes. Print the paper observation form, then type the details and notes into the tool afterwards, with the time you wrote each note.
How do I code?
Open the observation, select the words in your notes that show something, and choose a code. The coding guide lists every code with examples.
Why don't my results show anything?
Only checked observations count. The checking group marks them as checked on the Check screen. Below 30 checked observations the tool shows a warning, because the numbers are still unstable.
How do managers see the results?
In Set up, the programme lead makes a managers' report link, and publishes the summary to it from Results. Managers open the link to see totals and links only: no notes and no single observations. The link can be cancelled at any time. On-time results are never shown by crew, shift or observer.
What does "on time" mean?
Off blocks at the scheduled departure time (D0), or within 15 minutes of it (D15). The programme lead sets it once in Set up, so every station measures it the same way.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the tool has been opened once with a connection, the device keeps a copy, so it opens and works with no signal. Your observations are always saved on the device, and sent or synced when there is a connection. Whenever there is a connection, it picks up any updates.
